UC Women Travel to Cleveland to Play in the Rock N' Roll Sevens Tournament
Several players from the UC Women’s Rugby Team travelled up to Cleveland to play in the Rock N’ Roll Sevens Tournament on July 11th. The team played as the Cincinnati Lady Ruggers and consisted of Sarah Ackley, Kayla Bell, Colleen O’ Callaghan, Casey Carver, Abbey Militello, Samantha Niesz, Olivia Ribariu, Cleta Sandridge, Katy Yoder, and Emma Wilhelmus. Head Coach Nick Geary coached the team through the tournament.
After playing sevens in June, the women played very well and made huge strides in improving their sevens play. The team lost their first match to a Pittsburgh team. Their second match was played against a Cleveland Women’s team, whereby they lost by only one conversion kick! It was a close match and the UC Women played very well. Finally, the UC Women’s play Notre Dame College. The third game was just as close as the second with both teams having played very well. Unfortunately, Notre Dame College scored a try with only seconds left leaving them the victors.
Though they came home with no wins, the UC Women’s Rugby team came home with a better sevens game than when they left for Cleveland. The UC Women Rugby Football Club look forward to next Spring and Summer where they will expand their sevens play and aim to win a match!
