Winner, Winner, Frozen Chicken Dinner

Here we come, Conference Finals! Your favorite ice cubes battled it out in sub-zero temperatures today to shut out Ohio University 53-0 with Justine Perl as our lead scorer! Perl managed 20 points on the opposing bobcats, plus another 4 conversion kicks for a total of 28 points! Tries were also scored by Jess "Mango" Sang, Erin "Kiwi" Sang, Hailey Tippett, Jorey Bischof and Maddy Conklin. Not bad for everyone having to have their feet nearly amputated due to frostbite. 'Sko ladies.

On the other hand, we nominated Players of the Match this week to be... (drum roll please)... Justine Perl for Backs MVP and the entire group of forwards that participated in the scrum as Forwards MVPs!

Perl, as mentioned above, scored over half of the points in the game and did a fantastic job running our plays in the back line despite the many turnovers that occurred on both sides due to the chaos of the weather, such as extremely muddy conditions and freezing temperatures. She played outside-center really well while also making a very easy transition to fly-half when needed. Perl is a 4th Year Biomedical Engineering Major at the University of Cincinnati. She is involved in the UC Club Sports Board, the UCWRFC Executive Board, and works at a medical device company. Outside of UCWRFC, Perl plays for Ohio Elite Rugby Team and played with the Midwest Thunderbirds Rugby Team in Ireland this past year. Before college, she played a wide variety of sports, but started playing rugby because "I wanted to try something new and challenge myself," she says. Justine loves dogs, food, lifting, and Netflix. She is the poster child and muse for the social media segment #StuffJustineSays, an iconic and informational panel including all of the wise and helpful comments made by the one and only Justine Perl.

This week we also decided that all the forwards that were in the scrum today did an excellent job as a team! The scrum only lost one or two times out of the twenty or thirty times TOTAL that they had to scrum down in the game, which is amazing considering how terrible the ground conditions were from the weather and cleats aren't exactly fun in the mud. We had a significant amount of subs coming in and out throughout the game, even some front and second row players that have only been playing for the last few months, and the scrums stayed beautifully consistent. The scrum had great binds and worked really well together, communicating and keeping solid as a whole unit instead of individual parts, making a very powerful and successful scrum. Well done to the following scrum-people:

Gabrielle Beyrer

Jorey Bischof

Maddie "Witt" Boyd

Olivia "Gloves" Clement

Giselle Coleman

Sami Harrell

Delanie "Fiat" Hostetler-Greco

Emily Koslovsky

Allison "Jimbus" Kossen

Abby "Puss" Lowman

Taylor Reedy

Hailey Tippett

Paige "Versace" Visagie

Brooke Williams
