OVC Conference Champions: Part 3

Why did we include "Part 3" in the title of this week's article? Because this is UCWRFC's 3rd year IN A ROW securing our title as OVC Conference Champions and making our way to round 32 of the national tournament. This win marks three years of success, three years of hard work, and three years of glory. UCWRFC ended this season with a 48-17 win over Eastern Kentucky University and both teams will advance to the national tournament. Tries were scored by Natalie Crockett, Justine Perl (3), Erin "Kiwi" Sang, Jess "Mango" Sang, and Abby "Puss" Lowman. Perl finished off EKU with a 3-point kick and 10 points in conversion kicks.

The entire team played the best game of their lives and fought their hardest to ensure a win. They are nothing but prepared for their upcoming game against Bowling Green State University in Cincinnati. As the conference season comes to an end, we want to thank the really influential people in our rugby life.

First off, we want to thank the EKU Women's Rugby Team for being our top competition in the conference all these years. They have shown nothing but great sportsmanship and we look forward to playing them every season as it helps both teams improve and grow together.

Second, we want to thank all of our awesome parents and family fans that follow us to all the weird places we go and support us no matter what. Next, we NEED to thank our senior players: Natalie Crockett, Jorey Bischof, Jess Roach, and Emma Wilhelmus. You four have been an essential part of our team for so many years and we can't begin to explain all of your contributions on and off the pitch that you have given us to make the team what it is today. Players of the Match are Abby "Puss" Lowman as Forwards MVP and the entire group of backs for Backs MVP! Our 8-man Puss was a textbook perfect example of a forward this weekend- she was in every breakdown (and winning most of the rucks), poaching, and literally hunting people down to complete tackles. Jumping in the lineouts was a whole different story as Puss was successfully following through with every play. Puss is a 3rd year Early Childhood Education Major at the University of Cincinnati. She is also a student worker in the Office of Innovative Technology and Learning Design for CECH. "My favorite hobbies include watching game of thrones, pretending I can dance and sing like Beyoncé and making fun of backs", Puss told us. "I joined rugby because I’ve always wanted to play but never got the chance until college. Also shoutout to my mom @balowman for coming to most of my games and being a cool rucking mom."

As for the back line, they remained consistent the entire game, even with large amount of substitutions that were made. Support for one another was really great as the back line had backup all over the field. Every play was an integral part of their success, not to mention how beautiful and athletic they were this weekend. "Everyone's hair was on point this game and really, I think that's the main reason we won," Captain Jorey Bischof explained. The back line routinely has beauty-slumber parties in which they all run 10 miles and do their hair before and after, and take approximately 300 selfies each. Want to look as good as our back line?
