For the first time in forever...

For the first time in forever, UCWRFC is advancing to the Final 4 of the DII National Championships. Just let that sink in. UCWRFC is one of the FOUR BEST TEAMS in the NATION, THE WHOLE NATION, LIKE FROM CALIFORNIA TO NEW YORK CITY, FROM ALASKA TO HAWAI'I, WE ARE IN THE FINAL FOUR TEAMS. Like wow. Please just give us a round of applause. For the first time in UCWRFC history, here we are in the Final 4. This weekend was historic for UCWRFC. On Saturday, we took on University of Wisconsin Oshkosh for the Round of 16, defeating them 65-15. The team played phenomenally and finally dumped their pregame nervous-ness to come back in the second half and really bring home the win. "We were adjusting to play new opponents, we made mistakes, and didn't play like we normally do...but [Sunday] we really played cohesively and cleaned up mistakes we made [on Saturday]" 8-Man Abigail "Puss" Lowman explained. On Sunday, even with the light snow and extremely muddy pitch, we destroyed through the entire game and devoured the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Women's Rugby Team. "Our focus on teamwork and technique won us the games," Prop Emma Wilhelmus told us. Delanie Hostetler-Greco also added that "...we picked it up and floored it through the second half of Saturday's game and Sunday's game with no concern about the crappy conditions." Captain and Club President Jorey Bischof explained that our tournament play has been extraordinary. "Everyone has put in a lot of hard work over the season and it shows. The team started off slow on Saturday likely due to nerves, but we cleaned it up in the second half and we came out swinging in the game [Sunday]. The scrum did amazing and worked very well despite missing one of our most powerful players, [Sami Harrell], and the backs were much more cohesive today, as well." On Saturday against UW Oshkosh, tries were scored by magnificent players Erin "Kiwi" Sang (3), Justine Perl (4), Jess "Mango" Sang (2), Hailey Tippett, and Jorey Bischof. Perl also kicked our way to a win with 10 extra conversion kicks, and a penalty try was awarded in the first half. On Sunday against IUP, our scorers were Kiwi (2), Puss (2), Hailey Tippett (2), Perl (2), and Mango. Perl also added another 10 points to the scoreboard in conversion kicks. We have not been awarding any Player of the Week awards for the National Tournament because our team has been working as one solid unit. UCWRFC will advance to the Final Four in South Carolina at Furman University on December 2nd and 3rd against Winona State.
