We'll be back.

This weekend was one for the history books for UCWRFC. Along with finalizing our title as 4th in the nation, the team sealed UCWRFC's place in rugby history as a new and threatening contender in the national tournament. Since the team's beginning in 2011, making it to the semi finals of the national tournament has always been a dream. We came, we saw, and we are prepared to make the necessary changes to the team's dynamic to progress next year during the competitive fall season. On Saturday, we faced Winona State, the team that went on to become the National Champions, and we were finally defeated 17-46 after a 12-0 season and 80 minutes of hardcore competition. Points were put on the board by Alaina Tarr, Justine Perl, and Erin "Kiwi" Sang, with Perl kicking in one conversion. "The commentator on the TV mentioned that perhaps we lacked the experience (that we had too many nerves) and fitness [to win this weekend]," Coach Nick Geary explained. "The best thing about our team is the team camaraderie and the fun, I also love the fact that we are open to everyone- if getting better meant we would lose that in any way, I would not want to go on the journey." On Sunday in an intense battle for 3rd place, UCWRFC was eventually bested by Coast Guard after an extremely close first half, 7-37. Perl contributed all seven points with a try and conversion kick to follow. The team had a lot of time to bond this weekend and learn that the best part of playing rugby is the amazing friends you'll make and the lasting memories you'll take with you even after you finish your final season. "I am beyond proud of my team for how hard we worked to make it to the Final 4 this weekend," Senior Jess Roach reminisced on the last few years of her involvement in UCWRFC. "It's been bittersweet in that it's my last time being with this team that has meant so much to me over the past four years. I'm so glad I was able to come back to this sport in college, especially for as great of a team as UCWRFC. "Rugby is the kind of game that's hard to let go of- so much so that I very strongly considered (and started filling out the paperwork) to play this weekend with a torn ACL.. I’m so confident that my team will kill it in the Spring and the years to come! I’ll definitely continue cheering you all on from the sidelines." The team and all of the staff, coaches, and executive members want to thank all of our loving and devoted fans and family members for supporting us through thick and thin. We could never do anything without the support from you all and we can't wait for you to watch us this spring season!
