Let the Games Begin (Again)

UCWRFC is BACK IN ACTION for their 2018 Fall Season! This weekend, Ball State kindly drove out to Brimelow FIelds to give us a run for our money, but your favorite red-and-black-ruggers sealed the deal with a 52-17 win! This fall, UCWRFC has gained 21 new players in addition to our 24 veteran players, which officially makes us an army instead of a team.

Try scorers for this kickoff game included Justine Perl, Maddy "Conk" Conklin (2), Abby "Woody" Lowman (2), Hailey Tippett, Allison "Jim" Kossen, and Jess "Mango" Sang. Conversions were racked up by Perl (2), Paige "Versace" Visagie (3), and Mango. Shout out to President Paige Roller for subbing in for Ball State's team and scoring a try against us (not an easy feat)!

Players of the Match were two of our brand spankin' new players, Mary "Chewy" Chura and Morgan Correll!

"(Mary) asked good questions all week at practice and then used what she learned in the game," Backs Capitan Maddy "Conk" Conklin spoke after nominating Chewy for the title. Chewy had several great runs that set up tries for the rest of the team. Chewy is a first year student at UC studying Digital Media. "I wanted to play rugby because it's a great sport for building friendships, whether with your teammates or even opposing players", she stated.

Morgan Correll was hitting tackles left and right and easily adapted to any and all positions she was thrown into on the pitch, despite never having played a match before in her life. Correll is also a first year student at UC studying Political Science. "I play rugby because I wanted to play a sport and I loved [rugby] after the first practice," she answered.
