Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho, It’s Off To Nationals We Go

We have been so busy securing our spot in the National Tournament that we haven’t gotten the chance to write an article the past few weeks so here’s a quick run-down:

Miami University - 10/20

UCWRFC came out with an 88-0 win! Our players of the match for this game were Valarie Davis and Molly Martin!

Valerie scored her first try this match! She had impressive line speed and made herself available for offloads on the outside that resulted in tries for her and other teammates. Valerie is a freshman in Civil Engineering and decided to play rugby because she thought it looked cool and wanted to try something new!

Molly was consistently in pod plays throughout the whole game. She was able to repeatedly steal the ball as hooker in the scrums and her throws during lineouts have consistently improved throughout the season. UCWRFC won the majority of our lineouts because of how consistent her throws were. Molly is a freshman in Physical Therapy and outside of rugby also participates in the Catholic Bearcat Small Group. She wanted to play rugby at UC because she played in high school and gained a lot from it so she wanted to continue in college and meet a group of girls who loved rugby as much as she does!

Cedarville University - 10/27

In our last game of the regular season against Cedarville, UCWRFC came away with a 60-0 win! Our players of the match for this game were Cosette Busch and Grace Caniglia!

Cosette scored her first try this match and provided excellent support on the wing. She had a strong run game, gave good offloads, and timed her runs to perfection. Cosette is a freshman in the Pre-Nursing program. She started playing rugby because she was looking for a physical sport to play and a fun group of girls!

Grace was at almost every ruck and even caused a few turnovers while doing so! She made some killer tackles and provided great support and offloads for her teammates. Grace is a sophomore in political science and decided to start playing rugby because someone once told her that rugby is elegant violence and she has been in love with the sport ever since.

League Playoffs vs Miami University – 11/03

UCWRFC won 129-0 against Miami this past weekend in league playoffs, securing us a spot in the National Tournament! It was impossible to pick players of the match for this game because everyone played so well and the team continuity was on point. We are lucky enough to have a bye the first round of the tournament (Round of 32) and will be spending the next 2 weeks preparing for the Rounds of 16 and 8 the weekend of November 17th and 18th in Columbia, MO.

Stayed tuned for updates on field and opponent announcements! We would also like to encourage all of our friends, family, and fans to help us out as much as you can through donating to our GoFundMe to help cover the trip to Nationals!
